The AV afk situation is definitely an interesting problem from a design standpoint. I honestly don't know if there an easy solution that exists to solve this problem permanently... perhaps constant monitoring is the only way.
It's sad that this is the approach that must be used, but I can definitely see the logic in it. Make the risk of going AFK far greater than the benefits and you will likely cut down the number of people who attempt it. Reminds me of our justice system.

This seems like a bad play. Warnings and bans and tension and bs. Having players reporting other players for afking is just faulty thinking. The afker debuff is stupid too.
I'll add some random person's comment from the official forums as the worst case.
"I got reported twice today for guarding a tower. and guess what, I had to leave the stupid tower to mount up and run to find something to hit while a rogue capped it back."

Or maybe its a somewhat creative way of making light of the matter.
Enough people are botting that it hurts blizzard more to do real discipline than not. They have lost the battle, the rapid changes to things like Pirox and Glider make it impossible to keep up with Warden updates. They mass mailed warnings...that means nothing...it points to the sheer amount of people botting. Man AV's this week, especially Monday saw no more than 10 active. Why else would they lower the report and send out a QQ quick to those marked?
Want to know a secret, there was no software detection for the mass mailing. It was based off of the number of times a player got the debuff over a set period of time.
Guess what? People that know how to bot properly are benefiting from this. Do you think a real bot stands in the cave or hearths to the base? No the real botters are your active friends set on 3 points, 1) first boss, 2) end base 3) defense with the mods reporting afk's so they can get faster honor by making that form less lucrative.
There is nothing more soothing in WoW than getting full s1/3 honor rewards well drinking beer, coming back and enjoying world pvp & arenas that you can compete in.
Legitimate chars 3 times was enough for me, sorry I like making a thousand gold a day and having great gear on alts.
We all enjoy wow in our own way.

Nice to see the cash cow that is Blizzard take a somewhat active approach to cleaning up the griefing that is plaguing WoW at the moment.
I hardly play AV right now because the queues are so long. However, this past week, it has not been uncommon to have 1 or 2 obvious AFKers in AB or EoTS matches which DOES have an impact in the outcome of those BGs. I played one AB where we finally got enough to mark an AFKer who was doing nothing but swimming circles in the water around the blacksmith.
Now Blizzard, how about doing something to the people (especially Tauren) who park their huge ass mounts on TOP OF the battlemasters in Shattrath.

No, that's not it. I'm not talking about people inching up to click on the battlemasters. On my server, we have people that are obvious griefers.
We will have 1 of 2 things happen. A (usually)Tauren will mount up on their huge ass kodo or netherdrake and park it ON TOP OF the battlemaster and then go AFK. Or several boomkins will gather up and sit/stand on the battlemasters where you can't click on them.
It is this kind of griefing that plagues WoW. It seems small but it turns into a major annoyance and it is something that Blizzard has allowed people to get away with for 3+ years.
You would think that a major company like this who has released exactly 1 expansion in 3 years would dedicate a bit of their time/staff/finances to fixing some of the smaller, yet annoying, problems that hurt this game. That is one area where companies like Sony have Blizzard beat.

Removing the steps you must go through in order to obtain rewards dilutes gameplay and trivializes the nature of the game's genre.

Every warning is permanent, you can petition against an action enough warnings and you can get your account closed peranently. I see this as a very good thing.
On top of that as I read further down the thread, if you have asshats who sit on top of battlemasters again; it's a zone disruption(blocking a doodad), petition a GM, note the name, time place and be done with it. It's a warning offence, if they've done it more then once be happy that they'll probably get a 3hr vacation for being an idiot.

Yawn. People will just design better afk bots.
Besides, casters that afk bot have it easier. Just have it tab to an enemy and use your instant casts. Same thing with Healers.
